"No guts, no glory". That was Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan’s immediate response to their first victory in the second edition of DLF Indian Premier League, a 11-run conquest (D-L method) over Kings XI Punjab at Kingsmead here on Wednesday.Knight Riders, who were in the spotlight before the start of the season for the multiple-captaincy theory floated by Director of Cricket John Buchanan, found the winning formula after a dismal show against Deccan Chargers on Sunday.

Thanks to the blazing knock by Chris Gayle, Knight Riders were ahead of the target score in 9.2 overs when rain prevented further play. The team was 79 for one in 9.2 overs."My team has been in news for all the wrong reasons, including captaincy, but I am happy that we stuck together as a team", Shah Rukh Khan said. "There will be more losses in the game than in a movie, I believe that we didn’t play well against Deccan Chargers but I am glad that we put up a good fight today They know how much I love them." he said.

"I received a number of hate messages during the debate (on multiple-captaincy) but I have saved all of them so that I can go back to their homes and sing Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo re", he said. He also confessed that a lot of Kolkata fans would have been disappointed by the performance of Knight Riders last season and in the opening match in the second edition against Deccan Chargers. "I want to barge in Kolkata with the IPL trophy and will have some new dance moves to show for our team song", he said.

He praised Chris Gayle for his swashbuckling performance and Sourav Ganguly for contribution to the teams’ win with the cricket ball. "I hope Sourav becomes the player of the tournament," he said.Asked to name the team to watch out for Shah Rukh Khan said: "I am half Mumbaikar as I live there and half Delhite because I was born there and I own Kolkata Knight Riders. Nevertheless Mumbai Indians seems to be a strong contender this season."

Shah Rukh Khan And Aamir Khan Against For Multiplex Owners 08.04.2009

Bollywood biggies including Shah Rukh Khan , Aamir Khan and Ronnie Screwvala Tuesday came together to solve the tussle between the producers and multiplex owners over profit sharing and asked for a change in the revenue sharing system to keep the industry "healthy".

"The industry can survive only if all the sectors earn in fairness. Until that happens, the industry cannot be healthy and happy. I think it should be a partnership of equals (50-50). Distributors and exhibitors have to find a way to make it a viable business within their fifty percent. Within my fifty percent I have to make it profitable," Aamir said at a press conference here.

"Filmmaking is a very volatile business… we as filmmakers have to make our business viable… This is one industry and we all can survive only if each and every sector will earn a fair share… we want to find a solution to this," he added.Aamir and Shah Rukh were here to express their solidarity over the issue with other Bollywood big names like Karan Johar, Mukesh Bhatt, Ramesh Sippy, Screwvala and Yash Chopra.

Shah Rukh, however, stressed that the press meet should not be seen as a "power show"."This is not a power show. We haven’t gathered here to threaten multiplexes. This is not a show of power but of togetherness," said Shah Rukh who also felt that there should be equal sharing of revenue.

"We are not here to deprive our audiences of the films we make… I want to make it clear that this is not a strike, this is just a way to repair the problems. This is not something for greed or little profits. It is a basic fight for equality. We are here for the cause of ’fair rights for Friday nights’," he said. The "Om Shanti Om " star also expressed his opinion on the multiplexes looking down upon small films and said that such films suffer a lot.

"Small films fail to negotiate. Sometimes people (multiplexes) say that your films are not nice. Only the audiences have the right to tell us that our films are not nice. It is their right to tell us about the issues on creativity," he said. The negotiations over 50-50 revenue sharing between producers and multiplexes started around February. As a result, the united producers and distributors forum decided early March not to push any new releases in multiplexes. In a statement issued to the press, producers and distributors have said that they have decided to suspend marketing and distribution of all films set to release after April 4, 2009.

They may be passing ungracious comments behind each-other’s back, but superstars Shah Rukh and Aamir believe in solidarity when it comes to fighting for the cause of filmdom. The on-again-off-again stars stunned everyone by showing a united front at a producers meeting held to discuss the multiplex deadlock. The two appeared at their cordial best, catching up like old friends and discussing the producer-multiplex impasse.

According to a news daily, the two actor-producers were present at a hush-hush meeting at ‘The Club’ in Andheri with producers (Dharma Productions, Vishesh Films, UTV, Eros, Yash Raj Films and Studio 18) to discuss solutions for the impending problem.
According to a source, “All producers and distributors have decided not to release their movies from April 4 until multiplexes agree to an equal share in revenue regardless of the star cast or budget. Until then, the marketing and distribution of all new films set for release from April 4 have been suspended, except Percept’s ‘Tasveer 8 X 10’, which released yesterday. ”Talking about SRK and Aamir, the source added, “ This is one area where both SRK and Aamir are united. It’s a good thing because everyone realises that we are all part of one family the film industry.”

Mukesh Bhatt, from Vishesh Films, talked about the meeting, “I was present at the meeting with Aamir, Shah Rukh, Ronnie Screwwala from UTV, Karan Johar from Dharma, Yash Chopra from Yash Raj Films. Aamir and Shah Rukh were very warm and friendly towards each other. They greeted each other cordially. It’s our prime duty to stand by one another in crisis and help each other through it. That’s what Aamir and Shah Rukh are doing.”Producer Sajid Nadiadwala said, "I was to attend, but I couldn’t. Though I was to initially release ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ on May 29, now I’m not. There’s been an indefinite delay. I am there with the fraternity. My film is big, but it’s not bigger than the fraternity.”

IPL: Sunil Gavaskar Comments For SRK’s Multiple Captain Theory 06.04.2009

Bollywood superstar and Kolkata Knight Riders owner, Shah Rukh Khan on Sunday lashed out at former India batsman Sunil Gavaskar for his comments on John Buchanan’s multiple captain theory. Former Australia World Cup winning coach Buchanan, who is now manager of Kolkata Knight Riders, had suggested the multiple captain theory for the IPL second season that has ruffled a few feathers, including that of former India skipper Sourav Ganguly.

"I have great respect for Mr Gavaskar. I have grown up enjoying his performance as well as KR Vishwanath and Kapil`s. We all respect him too much but having said that I would like to say that please give it (the multiple-captain theory) a breathing space to try now. If we fail we can always go back to the traditional way" Shah Rukh said at a media conference. The Bollywood star said he has spent a lot of money in buying the team and would like to run it as he deems fit.

"I have spent lot of money on my team. If you have a problem then you buy your own team and run it the way you want, "he said, in an obvious response to Gavaskar`s comments. India`s batting legend Gavaskar, in a newspaper column, had criticised Buchanan`s theory saying too much importance is being accorded to the Australian, who is a failed first-class cricketer and is only trying to get lucrative jobs for "his Queensland. To comment on his multiple skipper theory is to give it the importance it doesn`t deserve but what does require comment is how he has got his Queensland pals lucrative jobs with KKR.”

"They have a very big support staff which includes his son and most of them are from Queensland. The owners – poor souls – have little idea that they are being milked", Gavaskar had written. Shah Rukh, meanwhile, said he would rather try the multiple captain idea and fail than not giving it a chance at all. "Twenty20 cricket is a new format and last time we did not do well after going by the traditional way (one captain). This time Buchanan will try multiple captaincy in the practice game before the IPL starts in South Africa and see whether he succeeds or not", the Bollywood star said.

Buchanan`s concept has generated lot of controversy ahead of the April 18 to May 24 IPL to be held in eight cities of South Africa. Ganguly, who led the team last year, had expressed resentment to the multiple captain idea. The former India captain and Buchanan have had lengthy discussions with Shah Rukh at his residence to thrash out the issues. Shah Rukh on Sunday pointed out that the concept had been tried out last year itself by Kings XI Punjab.

"It was tried out last year itself by the Mohali team which had a fielding captain (Kumar Sangakkara), a batting captain, a bowling captain and an overall captain Yuvraj Singh" , he said. The Bollywood star gave the example of cricket`s cousin baseball which has coaches giving instructions from outside the field to the pitchers, batters and others.Shah Rukh also expressed hope that his team would perform much better than last year.

"All our players are available. Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum, Ganguly, Brad Hodge, Ajantha Mendis, Ishant Sharma, Mashrafe Mortaza are there," he said."Almost 97 to 98 percent of the players are available and it`s a strong line-up. I hope the team performs better than last year", Shah Rukh said.
